Local Call Settings

Local calls are numbers that are outside of your organization but within your local calling area and do not require long distance tolls. As the number of phones has increased, calling locally has become more complex and may include several local area codes, prefixes, etc. Dialectic can help make this process easier.

Configure Call Type. Choose the “Local” call type from this pop-up menu to specify how Local calls should be handled.

Dial Method & Configuration. The Dial Method type & configuration that should be used for Local calls. Specify the Dial Method type on the left and the specific Dial Method configuration on the right.

Update All Call Type Configurations. If you want to use the Local Dial Method configuration for all call types, click the button to the right of the configuration pop-up menu. This allows you to easily set the Dial Method configuration for all call types but you may still need to modify the individual call type settings (such as toll-free codes) as necessary for proper dialing from your locale.

Prefix. If you need a prefix for Local calls, enter it here and it will be added at the beginning of your number before dialing. If your number already starts with this prefix, it will not be added by the Dialing Rules.

Suffix. If you need a suffix for Local calls, enter it here and it will be added at the end of your number before dialing. If your number already ends with this prefix, it will not be added by the Dialing Rules.

Digit Threshold. Enter the maximum number of digits a number can contain (ignoring any prefix or suffix that may be added by the Dialing Rules) to be considered a Local call. If the number contains more digits than this threshold or it does not start with one of the area codes specified in the local area codes field, it will progress down the call type logic chain next going to the Toll-Free call type for identification.

Local Area Codes. A list of one or more local area codes (e.g., 212, 646, 718, etc.) for your local calling area to help determine if a call is Local or Long-Distance.

Include Local Area Code. In many areas it is now necessary to dial the area code even for Local calls (10-digit dialing). If the number to be dialed contains a local area code as specified in the local area codes field, you can choose here whether or not that area code will be included in the final dialed number.
