To use Jon’s Phone Tool, copy the application to your Applications folder (or anywhere, really). If you want to actually dial a phone, you must have a separate telephone or softphone application. To dial via the speakers, simply hold the receiver of an external phone up to your Mac’s speakers when the numbers are played — make sure your speakers are not muted! To dial using the modem, make sure both the modem and your phone are connected to the same phone line. As soon as the modem dials the number, simply pick up your receiver. The modem will bow out and you may continue your call. For non-mobile phones, this external phone must be an analog phone (i.e., a standard phone found in most homes). If you wish to use JPT with a digital phone (such as a PBX in an office), you’ll need a converter to allow your modem to communicate with your phone. JPT also supports dialing various external IP phones and softphones directly. For more information about dialing, Dial Methods, and rules, see the appropriate help sections. JPT is fully-functional trialware with a 14-day trial period. Until you register, whenever JPT is launched you will receive a notice asking you to register and pay the registration fee. After the trial period is over, you will not be able to use JPT. If you find JPT useful — and I hope you will — please consider paying the nominal registration fee. Once registered, the initial dialog will no longer be displayed and the trial period limitation is removed. Your registration is good for the life of the product and all future upgrades will be free of charge. |
