Application Modes

The Dialectic application can operate in either of two modes:

  1. Background Mode The default mode with Dialectic accessible from a status menu on the right side of the menu bar. In this mode Dialectic will not appear in the Dock, have separate menus like other applications, or appear in the Command-Tab or Force Quit lists. If you need to force quit Dialectic when operating in background mode, use the Activity Monitor application (in your /Applications/Utilities/ folder) to send the force quit command — no need to restart or log out just to quit Dialectic if it is misbehaving.
  2. Foreground Mode When run in foreground mode, Dialectic will have regular application menus, will appear in the Dock and other standard application locations (e.g., the Command-Tab application switcher and Force Quit lists). In this mode Dialectic can be hidden like other applications to make it less obtrusive.
