Alerts

Dialectic provides a robust alert system to display standard application notifications, For example, when dialing, the alert window will display information about the call including the associated name (if available), the original number, the Dial Method configuration used, the transformed number, and the call type.

The alert system is also used for notifications when Dialectic Remote dial services are found or removed, to display information from remote broadcasts, and for various other times when the application has information to display. Any notification message that is sent to the alert system is also displayed in the message section of the main window.

The alerts can be highly customized from the interface section of the preferences. They can also be disabled from this section or, if you have installed the Growl notification system, you can choose to use that instead.

To make the alert system even more useful, you can access Dialectic’s alerts using AppleScript from other applications. In order to allow this, however, you need to enable the “Allow External AppleScript Access to Logging and Status Features” option in the miscellaneous section of the preferences. For security purposes, access to this feature via scripting is not allowed (e.g., another application could bombard your system with alerts and make it difficult to get any work done).

If you prefer, you can also use OS X’s built-in notification center to receive alerts from Dialectic.
